Wenger Gives Alexis Sanchez Update

Arsene Wenger has provided an update on the future of Alexis Sanchez, saying that the forward has not asked to leave the club. Sanchez has been touted for a move away from the Emirates this summer, with PSG the most likely destination, however, Wenger says the French side’s pursuit of Barcelona’s Neymar is due to them having no chance of signing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.

The Gunners boss insists Sanchez has not asked to leave this summer and is adamant he will not be sold regardless.

Wenger’s continued defiance comes despite Sanchez stating last week that he had informed Arsenal of his position and wanted to play in the Champions League.

Wenger said: “Has he asked to leave? No. PSG can’t get Sanchez, so they are going for Neymar.”

“My mind has been made up for a while now. I think I’ve made it clear a few times; that this is my stance. We are in a strong financial position. Sanchez has got one year to go on his contract and we have no need to make money.”

“He will be part of the team next year and after that I can understand it.” [Quotes via Sky Sports]

Sanchez is one of the best players to have played for Arsenal, certainly he is currently one of the Premier League’s best. Naturally, this brings a lot of transfer attention, and with the Chilean having only 12 months left on his current deal it perhaps seemed as if the Gunners would be forced into selling their star man.

Hopefully Wenger’s recent words will have some sort of substance to them, as he has been known to make similar statements with the likes of Henry, Fabregas, Adebayor, Nasri and Van Persie – leaving fans understandably disappointed.
