Wenger: Giroud Will Come Good

Arsene Wenger has spoken of his delight at Olivier Giroud striking impressive form before the start of the new Barclays Premier League campaign, as the French attacker scored a brace in Arsenal’s pre-season friendly against Indonesia Dream Team.

Giroud’s struggle to cope with the intensity of the Premier League last season worried some supporters, and raised concerns over the reliability of the striker in attack. However, the reason for Arsenal to sign him from Montpellier in the first place was because Wenger was a big fan of his physical and aerial ability. Next season will pose a big challenge for Giroud, as the club are likely to bring in a star striker to increase competition for places. Ever since the departure of Robin van Persie to Manchester United, goals have been coming from midfielders like Santi Cazorla, and makeshift strikers like Theo Walcott.

Rumors of reported interest in United star Wayne Rooney have been doing the rounds, and Wenger has admitted that he would not shy away from bidding for the England international if the opportunity presented itself. Given the friction between new manager David Moyes and Rooney, United could be forced to sell the former Everton striker. However, Moyes is trying his best to convince the striker to stay, and admitted that the Rooney would be the perfect replacement if van Persie was to get injured through the course of the season.

Giroud still offers a lot and his old club Montpellier signed him in 2010, and the Frenchman saw success at the club, scoring 33 goals in 73 matches, before finally making the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

According to SkySports, Wenger is showing faith in Giroud, and said, “I like Olivier very much. He scored 17 goals in his first year in England when he needed to adapt and I’m sure he will respond.”

So look for a big part from Giroud this season and lets hope he can take advantage of his opportunities.
