Wenger Delighted With Wilshere Response

English international, Jack Wilshere found himself in the midst of an unwanted controversy just prior to the West Brom game when he was caught smoking a cigarette outside a nightclub in London while hanging out with his friends one night. That drew unwanted publicity towards him and much was being written about the midfielder.

His manager Arsene Wenger was questioned about this incident who stated that he would be having a word with Wilshere on this. The two managed to resolve this issue quickly between themselves and Wilshere featured for Arsenal as they traveled to The Hawthorns to face West Brom.

He made headlines once again but this time for the right reasons as he scored the goal which helped Arsenal earn a draw against a resolute West Brom defense. This went some distance towards ending these allegations of smoking, and Wenger was delighted with the character shown by Wilshere to silence the bad press.

Yahoo! Eurosport report him as saying after the game, “He [Jack Wilshere] is an honest lad and when he’s wrong he knows it. Today the players do not get away with anything – we got away with a bit more. But what is more interesting for England and for Arsenal is that he shows the right response on the pitch.”

Arsenal head into the international break still managing to maintain their status of league leaders after the draw on Sunday saw them lose two points to go level on points with Liverpool, but stay ahead on virtue of the number of goals scored. This international break could be a welcome bonus for the Gunners who will return to club action massively boosted by the multiple likely returns of the likes of Santi Cazorla, Lukas Podolski, Theo Walcott and possibly even Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

These returns will definitely improve Arsenal’s attack, but it will also mean increased competition for places in the team. With Wilshere currently being deployed on the left side of midfield, do you see him resisting the competition and sustaining his place in the starting 11?
