Wenger Backs Up Ozil

Wenger Backs Up Ozil

Ozil has been under the spotlight during the past few games as his form looked to be fading somewhat. The 25 year old German international had a great season start but seems to have trouble keeping up with the Premier League’s demanding nature.

According to Metro, Ozil’s poor performance against Liverpool was well below average which is not something you would expect from Arsenal’s most expensive transfer of all time. Even with his mediocre contributions lately, Wenger is still on the midfielder’s side. The Frenchman insisted that despite his hot start, the Gunners’ playmaker is in need of some time to accommodate to the rigors of English football which is, as most know, probably the most physically demanding championship in all of Europe.

Wenger also pointed out the fact that losing to Liverpool was more of a collective blunder rather than an individual one. Ozil was simply part of the team and fingers should not be pointed towards an exceptional player such as the 25 year old. It was a mistake that will not happen again especially after Arsenal lost first place in the Premier League standings and remain one point behind Chelsea after both clubs tied in the week.

Ozil who moved to London from Real Madrid is clearly having some trouble dealing with having to perform once every three days is not easy even for a player of his quality. It is obvious that he has hit a bit of a wall because he missed out on Arsenal’s summer training. He signed with the Gunners on the last day of the transfer period and instantly became a team regular but is now feeling the effects of a hard season.
