Wenger backs Sanchez to win back Arsenal fans

Arsenal fans could be excused for being a little hurt by Alexis Sanchez at the moment. The Chilean was heavily linked with a move away from the Emirates during the summer transfer window after refusing to sign a new deal at the club – despite having just one year left to run on his current contract.

Sanchez is one of the best players in the Premier League, so news of his desire to depart the club will have left many fans with a sour taste. This was all but confirmed during Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, when a section of fans booed Sanchez as he was brought on by Wenger as a late substitute.

After the game, Wenger said he was confused over why fans chose to boo the forward. However, the boss said he thought looked happy after the game, and has backed Sanchez to win back the love of his Arsenal fans soon.

“Alexis Sanchez will win the fans back, and win them back very quickly,” said Wenger. “We have to accept those responses from people.

“I don’t know why [there were jeers]. The best way to get people on your side is to perform.”

“I had a chat with him after the game and he didn’t look unhappy. Maybe it’s because he wanted to score. The interpretation of the attitudes is always very dangerous.”

It is understandable why fans would boo the forward, but booing a player will surely only further decrease their moral – something the Arsenal squad could do without right now.
