We Will Not Sell Suarez To Arsenal – Liverpool

Suarez and Liverpool have been at loggerheads ever since the Reds turned down Arsenal’s second bid of £40 million and £1 which was intended to trigger Suarez’s release clause. Liverpool though maintained that there was no clause present in the Uruguayan’s contract which entitled a club playing in the UEFA Champions League to sign him for that amount.

Liverpool’s rejection of Arsenal’s improved bid angered Suarez, who has since gone on a tirade against his club and has accused them of ‘failing to keep their promise’. It became further ugly as manager Brendan Rodgers went on to defend his club’s decision and instead joined the likes of former Liverpool greats Jamie Carragher in accusing him of his unacceptable behavior. It is expected that Arsenal will be making their third bid for him in the coming days as they look to wrap up this transfer saga which has been dragging on for the entire summer.

However, Liverpool have maintained their stance of retaining their frustrating yet mesmerizing striker as their club’s owner John Henry was asked about whether he will sanction a move to Arsenal and Metro reported him as saying, “I’m unequivocal that we won’t sell to Arsenal, whatever the bid is. I have not said it to Stan [Kroenke, Arsenal’s majority shareholder] but I had a personal conversation with others at Arsenal and told him [Gazidis] we would not sell to Arsenal.”

“He won’t be sold even if a foreign club comes in because we do not have time to sign a suitable replacement. It’s a football reason. It’s not about finances. That’s why at this point, so late in the window, with everyone who’s already moved or isn’t moving, we can’t replace him. So for football reasons we can’t sell, and especially to Arsenal.”

With Henry clearly sounding out his intentions of standing in the way of Suarez’s hopes of joining Arsenal, do we expect this story to take another twist?
