Walcott Unlikely To Be Charged By FA

The Gunners were leading 2-0 before Walcott suffered a knee injury late in the second half and had to be carried off on a stretcher with Arsenal reduced to 10 men since Wenger had utilized all three substitutes. En route to the dressing room, the England international was met with a barrage of coins and plastic bottles from the Spurs section of the crowd.

The 24-year-old responded by raising both his fingers from his right hand towards the Spurs supporters as an indication of the score line – 2-0. Arsenal eventually won the game by that same score but the focus was shifted towards Walcott and whether he would be reprimanded by the FA.

However as, Yahoo! Eurosport is reporting, Walcott is set to escape any action from the FA for his hand gesture. The report suggests that the FA will not dish out any retrospective action to Walcott and even his manager believes that his reaction was not ‘offensive’.

Wenger said, “The doctors said to me that the coins had been raining over his [Walcott’s] head and they had to protect him, maybe that is why he did that. Yes [the coins came before the gesture] that is what I have been told.”

He added, “After that, what he did is not offensive. You look for every single incident, I can understand that, but it is an action that didn’t offend anybody. I have seen the pictures after the game and it does not even look aggressive, he is smiling. They [the FA] have seen the pictures on television. If they judge it offensive, what can I say?”
