‘Vill’ Spurs Dash Arsenal’s Hopes?

Spanish striker, David Villa looks set to quit the Nou Camp in the summer after falling out of favor with manager Tito Vilanova, and he is widely expected to move onto another top club in search of regular playing time while keeping one eye on the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

The 31-year old was intensely linked with Arsenal and it was reported that the Gunners tried to sign him in the January transfer window, however Barcelona made it clear that they were not willing to let any of their big name players leave in the middle of the season, however, also stating that Arsenal were free to sign him in the summer, provided that they meet Barcelona’s valuation of Villa.

It is common knowledge that Arsene Wenger will have a massive transfer fund available to him in the summer, and given his desire to bring in a big name and proven striker to the Emirates Stadium, a summer bid for Villa could very much be on the cards.

However, entering the fray now are Arsenal’s neighbors Tottenham, who are themselves understood by Mail Online to be interested in the Spain international. Spurs too are on the lookout for a striker in the summer, after having been fed-up with Emmanuel Adebayor’s inconsistency and Jermaine Defoe’s recurring injury setbacks.

Tottenham Boss, Andre Villas-Boas, has been ordered to sign a big name striker in the summer, with Spurs also being linked with a possible move for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain, along with Villa. They will be keen on pulling off this deal in their desperate attempt to persuade star attacker Gareth Bale to convince him of Spurs’ potential for the next season and to keep him at White Hart Lane, amidst strong interest from European heavyweights like Barcelona and Real Madrid for Bale’s services.

With a battle between Arsenal and Spurs set to commence once the transfer window re-opens, it will be most interesting to see which one of these rivals gets the better of the other and lands the star striker.
