In a recent interview with Arsenal’s Youtube channel, young Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli was asked by teammate David Luiz which Arsenal player best represented the Samba style of play.
The 18-year-old replied that midfielder Joe Willock was the player who played most like a Brazilian out of everyone in the Gunners squad, and Luiz agreed by dubbing him “Willockinho”:
💬 “Willock. I call him Willockinho!”

Willock is certainly a young player who is fearless on the ball and will look to pick out a pass. He has had some difficult moments this season but you do expect that from a young player.
Even so, four goals in 15 appearances this season isn’t a bad return but he’ll want to step up his performances in the Premier League. In the 13 games since he made his league debut, the youngster has yet to score or provide an assist.
Whether he’ll feature against Southampton, it remains to be seen. Emery may consider going with a more attack-minded midfield with the Saints having struggled defensively this season.
