Freddie Ljungberg certainly improved his chances of being named Arsenal manager after Monday’s night’s win at West Ham, but will it be enough for the Gunners board to consider him a serious candidate?
There is no doubt the side had been struggling with confidence and we may now see a completely different team under Ljungberg than the one we saw in his first two and a half games in charge. Both Jamie Carragher and Rafa Benitez were asked whether the Swede could get the job fulltime off the back of the victory at the London Stadium:
Benitez’s point that one game or even one moment can transform a manager’s fortunes at a club is an interesting one, but we shall have to wait and see if the comeback against the Hammers will have a dramatic effect on Arsenal’s performances in upcoming games.
They face Standard Liege in the Europa League tomorrow night, with a draw needed to seal qualification. Ljungberg’s side then host Manchester City at the Emirates in a massive game on Sunday.
