Arsenal and Manchester United are both “very interested” in signing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, according to Fichajes.net.
The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the Gunners are keen on strengthening their right flank, with the Dutch international having been identified as a key target.
Inter are expected to sell Dumfries at the end of the season, with the Nerazzurri needing to fill a €60m (£53m) black hole in their budget. They believe they can make up most of the shortfall by offloading the defender.
It should be noted that Dumfries is more of a wingback than a fullback, and there are some questions about his defensive capabilities in a back four.
However, the biggest issue for manager Mikel Arteta has been that he doesn’t really have a natural attacking right-back in his squad. Ben White has filled in ably for most of the season, but he really is more of a centre-half. Takehiro Tomiyasu is also a more defensively-minded player so targeting someone like Dumfries does make sense.
