Vermaelen To Pair Up With Stefan De Vrij

Vermaelen To Pair Up With Stefan De Vrij

Manchester United have reportedly convinced Thomas Vermaelen to move to Manchester. All that is left now is for Arsenal to agree to the amount of money sent by United to London. According to the Daily Star, negotiations are complicated as the Gunners hope to get more than £11million for their captain. The Belgium international who is currently in Brazil, has had a rough 2013-2014 season. He was always the third choice for a spot in Wenger’s centre of defense which is dominated by Koscielny and Mertesacker.

If Vermaelen does end up at Old Trafford, he will probably become a team regular as Louis van Gaal looks keen on making him the number one defender in Manchester United’s squad. The 28 year old is set on being paired up with Dutch international, Stefan de Vrij who has impressed audiences with his mature playing style and is also wanted by van Gaal.

Arsenal will probably postpone the transfer as much as possible. Their squad which is already too thin, will not stand losing Vermaelen. Even though he was no longer a team regular, he could easily take the place of any of the two defenders who are currently featured in Wenger’s line-up.

The Gunners’ now former captain, insisted on leaving which means his transfer will probably be completed at the end of the World Cup in Brazil. Hopefully, Arsenal will find a set of players to sign during the next few weeks. All of their major competitors have invested a lot in transferring some star quality players. Arsenal seem like the only ones who have let some of their more important players leave.
