Vermaelen Makes Liverpool’s Short-List

Thomas Vermaelen is one of the hottest players currently available on the market. After things between him and Arsenal became clear and both sides decided it is time for a transfer, the Belgian has not had a shortage of offers. Manchester United were the first ones to get in line. Barcelona followed and now, according to the Daily Star, Liverpool are also interested in bringing in the Gunners’ captain. Brendan Rodgers who has spent a lot of money on transfers is hoping to pair Vermaelen with freshly transferred Dejan Loveren. Apparently, Liverpool have £12million lined up for the 28 year old which is in the same ball park as Wenger’s financial expectations.

While in Brazil, Vermaelen spoke about a possible move and dismissed any talks with Manchester United who were rumored to have offered Arsenal £10million for the central defender. The main reason for so many rumors regarding his departure is in the fact that he has lost contact with Arsenal’s first team. With that in mind it is a bit hard to believe he will join Liverpool who have one of the best defensive lines in the Premier League and also have one of the most best equipped squads after numerous recent purchases.

The 28 year old will probably join either Barcelona or Manchester United both of which have very big problems when it comes to central defenders. United just lost Vidic and Ferdindand and Barcelona lost Puyol who retired.
