Vela Closes Door On Possible Arsenal Reunion

Mexican international, Carlos Vela was not quite able to hold down a place in Arsenal’s starting 11 and was generally used as a squad player or sent out on loan. Lack of regular first-team football forced him to quit the Gunners as he joined Real Sociedad in the summer last year.

The switch has worked wonders for him as he quickly settled into La Liga and has already scored 12 goals in his debut season, with a high possibility of him adding to that impressive tally judging by his recent form in front of goal.

Arsenal are sure to be in the transfer market in search of a striker in the summer, and have already been linked to big names like David Villa, Edinson Cavani and Stevan Jovetic. It is believed that Arsenal may also be contemplating a possible move to bring back Vela, as Arsene Wenger weighs up all his options before making his move.

It was reported recently that Arsenal had inserted a buy-back clause in Vela’s contract, when they sold the striker last year, and were looking to activate it in the summer. Vela is aware of the interest of his former club in bringing him back to London, and is ever grateful to Arsenal for helping to make him into the player he is now, however he states that he sees his future at Real Sociedad.

According to talkSPORT, the player spoke to Spanish news international agency EFE and said, “Arsenal are a big team who gave me the opportunity to play in Europe. I will always remember that, but I didn’t have the opportunities that I felt I deserved.”

“I am very happy here [at Real Sociedad] and would like to stay here.”

With Vela voicing his intentions of staying put, it would suggest this is the end of Arsenal’s interest in him.
