Upamecano Leaves Door Open To Transfer As He Speaks Out On Arsenal Interest

RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano has said he has had no contact from Arsenal or Barcelona regarding a transfer during the January transfer window.

The Gunners, along with the Catalan giants, are believed to be keen on signing the defender, but speaking to RBLive.de, the Frenchman said he will leave any talks to his agents:

“My consultants only talk to me about sporting things anyway, not about requests or offers from other clubs.”

Upamecano’s contract at RB Leipzig expires in eighteen months time, and when pushed on whether he could move on from the Bundesliga club in the summer, the 21-year-old left the door open to a possible departure:

“If my advisors, my family, and I think I should stay, I will stay. And if after a conversation with RB, if there was one, they think I should change at a certain time, then I would also deal with it.”

There was speculation earlier this month that Leipzig may be open to selling the France Under 21 international for £40m in January due to his contract situation but the player’s comments suggest he will be staying at least until the end of the season.

RB Leipzig are currently top of the Bundesliga and Upamecano appears to be determined to stay and help his current team lift the league title.
