Arsenal are keeping tabs on Verona holding midfielder Ivan Ilic, according to the Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian publication report that the Serbian international is “under observation”, having been watched by a representative from the Gunners back in September.

A scout was sent to observe Ilic, along with his international teammate Sergey Milinkovic-Savic, when Lazio faced Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.

Arsenal are looking to strengthen their options in the middle of the park. Mohamed Elneny’s contract expires at the end of the season, while Albert Sambi Lokonga’s future at the Emirates is also uncertain.

Ilic actually has some experience of English football already. He was signed by Manchester City back in 2017, and he was sent out on a number of loan spells before making a permanent move to Verona in the summer of 2021.

Whether the Gunners are serious about bringing the 21-year-old back to the Premier League, we shall have to wait and see.
