Unai Emery keen to land former star Ever Banega

Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants to Sevilla star Ever Banega to North London, according to reports.

Banega was a key member of Emery’s Sevilla side between 2014 and 2016 that won back-to-back Europa League titles.

The Argentine left Spain in 2016 for Inter Milan, where spent only one season before returning to Sevilla, where has impressed once again.

Banega made 50 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish outfit last term, scoring four goals, and has continued his dazzling form at this summer’s World Cup – where his performances helped Argentina qualify for the last-16.

And Estadio Deportivo now report Banega could be on his way to Arsenal for a re-union with his former boss.

Unai Emery is looking to rebuild his midfield as he looks to improve on the Gunners sixth placed Premier League finish last season, and has identified the 30-year-old as one of his top targets.

Arsenal’s proposed move for Banega has been given further hope by Sevilla’s acquisition of Swansea City midfielder Roque Mesa, with the arrival of the Spaniard potentially paving there way for Banega to leave the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.

Arsenal have already made two new signings this summer in the former of Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno, who joined the club in a £22.5 million deal.
