Two Senior Players Set To Be Axed By Arteta With Decision To Be Made Later This Month

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta will have to axe two senior players when the Gunners submit their 25-man squad to the Premier League later this month.

Rules state that clubs must only include a maximum of 17 non-homegrown players and, with Arsenal currently having 19 in their first team, there will be two who will have to miss out.

The favourite to be excluded is Mesut Ozil, with the German having failed to make a matchday squad this campaign, but choosing the other player could prove to be a lot more difficult.

Arteta does currently have eight centre-backs after the failure to offload the likes of Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi. Those two defenders would be among the favourites to be left out. Calum Chambers and Rob Holding are homegrown so they don’t count, while players such as Pablo Mari and Gabriel have only recently arrived at the club. David Luiz also remains a key first-team player.

The Premier League squad list has to be submitted by October 20th so we won’t have to wait long to see who has been axed.
