Twitter Goes Into Meltdown As Gooners Praise Arsenal On Appointment Of Arsene Wenger’s Successor

When Arsene Wenger stepped down as Arsenal manager at the end of the season the job immediately became a huge opportunity for some of the best managers in the game.

The possible list of candidates included the likes of Mikel Arteta, Joachim Löw, Eddie Howe, Brendan Rodgers, Thomas Tuchel and Massimiliano Allegri with the Italian coach being the choice of many Gooners for their next boss according to our recent poll.

The club have gone in a completely different direction however in appointing the former Valencia, Sevilla, and PSG manager Unai Emery as the new Arsenal manager despite Arteta being strongly reported as the favourite for the job .

The 46-year-old Spaniard joins the Gunners after leading PSG to a domestic treble with his only failing that he could not deliver Champions League success for the French giants.

Emery however has a most impressive record over the past 5 seasons as since the 2013-14 season he was won 8 trophies which is tied with Pep Guardiola for the most across all the major 5 European leagues.

Those 8 trophies include 3 successive Europa League wins with Sevilla so Emery knows how to win big trophies plus he has also won the French Ligue 1 title.

Making the quick appointment of Emery gives the new manager plenty of time to settle in at the club and takes the pressure off the Arsenal board and the majority owner Stan Kroenke had this to say on the official Arsenal website:

“We’re delighted to welcome Unai to Arsenal. He’s a proven winner. We’re confident that he is the right person for the job and that he will work to deliver the triumphs our fans, staff and everyone who cares about Arsenal want.

“Several things stood out during his interview and the entire process; his football knowledge, energy, determination and love of the game. His familiarity with our club and our players, the Premier League and the game in Europe were all very impressive. He shares our vision to move forward, to build on the platform created by Arsène Wenger and help this club enjoy greater success.”

In response to becoming the new Arsenal boss Unai Emery certainly seems happy and he responded with these words:

“I am thrilled to be joining one of the great clubs in the game. Arsenal is known and loved throughout the world for its style of play, its commitment to young players, the fantastic stadium, the way the club is run. I’m very excited to be given the responsibility to start this important new chapter in Arsenal’s history. I have met Stan and Josh Kroenke and it’s clear they have great ambitions for the club and are committed to bringing future success. I’m excited about what we can do together and I look forward to giving everyone who loves Arsenal some special moments and memories.”

Former players like Ian Wright and celebrity fans like Piers Morgan have voiced their approval of the appointment of Unai Emery with his big trophy wins and ability to make teams overachieve being key factors for them.

How Arsenal back Emery in the transfer market remains to be seen but you would think he will be allowed to make some serious moves once he analyses his squad and identifies his targets.

There was some serious football news yesterday when West Ham appointed Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager but Arsenal have certainly trumped their London rivals with the appointment of their new boss today.

New Arsenal manager Unai Emery likely will be more of a spender than Arsene Wenger who in recent windows did not seem to even use the entire transfer budget he had available to him and it will be interesting to see which areas of the team the new Gunners boss looks to strengthen.

It seems as though most Arsenal fans are very happy with the choice of their new boss as you can in the tweets below.
