Torreira Still Can’t Quite Believe He Is An Arsenal Player

Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira says that it is still sinking in that he is a Gunners player following his summer arrival at the club.

The Uruguayan international was signed from Sampdoria for a reported £26.4m in July, and the midfielder believes he is still adapting to his new surroundings:

“This is all new, the league is very different from the Italian… It’s a pride to be the first Uruguayan in Arsenal. I always dreamed of playing in a club like that and I’m living it at 22 years old. Sometimes I find it hard to stop in time and see where I am.”

Torreira has looked impressive coming off the bench for Arsenal in the first four league games but manager Unai Emery has yet to select him from the beginning of a match. His first start may yet come against Newcastle on Saturday but the midfielder has had a slight injury scare.

On international duty, the Uruguayan was pictured with an ice pack on his calf after being substituted at halftime during the 4-1 win over Mexico on Saturday.

However, since then the club have released an injury update and they’ve stated that all players returned from the international break fit and available to face the Magpies this weekend.
