Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has decided against shutting down rumours about his future after being asked whether he is considering leaving the Gunners.
A return to Italy has been suggested by the Uruguayan’s agent, who has twice spoken out this week about the 23-year-old being unhappy in his role at the club. And when asked to clarify his situation, Torreira replied:
“Today Arsenal needs me to be focused. I can’t start talking about another team. I need to be focused and when the transfer window arrives we will see what will happen. I don’t know what can happen in the future.”
It doesn’t suggest that Torreira is completely committed to his current club, although he also doesn’t explicitly say that he wants to leave either.
The Uruguayan international is seemingly keeping his options open, but he may opt to stay if he is given more game time in the coming weeks by manager Unai Emery.
Granit Xhaka’s absence from the squad means Torreira will be the man that the Arsenal boss turns to but whether regular matches will be enough to keep the player, we shall have to wait and see.
