Arsenal have a player in the top five Premier League players with the highest expected goals so far this season.
The Gunners come off a lucky 1-1 draw against Man City when they managed to equalise in the 93rd minute to salvage a point at the Emirates. It leaves them second in the Premier League, which is great apart from the fact they are five points behind Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s side have won five games from five so far this season, and are currently running away with the league title. However, Man City will also have something to say about that, with the likes of Erling Haaland, Rodri and Tijani Reijnders in their team.
However, speaking of Haaland, who have been the top strikers in the Premier League this season, and which ones have had the highest XGs so far…? (Based on Opta stats).
5. Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal – 2.21 XG
Gyokeres has had the fifth-most expected goals of any player in the Premier League so far with a total of 2.21. That also shows how prolific he’s been as he has scored three so far, despite his expected being closer to two.
The Arsenal striker was brought in to deliver goals, and he has impressed so far. He will be hoping to get back on the scoresheet against Newcastle next weekend.
4. Jean-Philippe Mateta, Crystal Palace – 2.67 XG
Mateta is next up and it is no surprise, because the Palace star is the example of an ideal target man striker, who knows how to get into the best positions every time.
He has scored two goals so far, which is a downgrade on his XG, but based on the fact that Oliver Glasner’s side are clearly creating the chances for him, it would be no surprise to see him delivering soon.
3. Antoine Semenyo, Bournemouth – 2.73 XG
Semenyo has been one of the best players in the Premier League so far this season, becoming not only the darling of Bournemouth fans, but also the darling of every FPL player.
He has an XG of 2.73, and has already scored three goals this season, which show his finishing is perfectly good. His tally will only increase as a quick rate if he carries on as he is.
2. Bruno Fernandes, Man United – 2.75 XG
The Man United captain is second on this list, with an XG just 0.02 higher than Semenyo’s. Bruno has scored just two goals however, meaning that more is clearly to come for the United star.
Despite United’s poor form, Amorim’s side have improved in attack, so it is only a matter of time until Bruno goes on a solid scoring run.
1. Erling Haaland, Man City – 6.26 XG
There is nothing surprising about Haaland being on top of this list, but perhaps the most surprising thing is to do with how far ahead of every other Premier League player he is.
Haaland has scored six league goals for Man City so far this season, and based on his XG, it could be even more, which is a scary thought.
