“Too Much Quality…” Nuno Tavares Names Chelsea Player As The Toughest Opponent He Has Faced

Arsenal left-back Nuno Tavares has named Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount as the toughest player he has come up against in the Premier League.

The Portuguese defender has had a somewhat difficult first season in England, with his defensive capabilities coming in for close scrutiny after a number of poor performances. When asked to say which opposing player proved the most difficult to handle, though, Tavares went for Mount:

“I think the positions, he knows the place he should be to make people feel uncomfortable and with the ball, he has too much quality. He has goals, you know, so I think Mason Mount.”

Tavares faced Mount in both league fixtures versus Chelsea last campaign. He came on to replace Kieran Tierney in the 2-0 defeat at the Emirates back in August, while he started the 4-2 win over the Blues in April.

Mount provided an assist in both matches, setting up Reece James for Chelsea’s second in the first fixture, whilst crossing the ball to Cesar Azpilicueta for the Blues’ second at Stamford Bridge. Clearly, those moments would have coloured Tavares’s thinking when coming up with his choice.
