Tierney Makes Champions League Claim As He Vows To Help Arsenal See Off Rivals For Top 4 Spot

Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney says that the Gunners “belong” in the Champions League and he is hoping that the team can put a run of wins together in the coming months in order to cement their place in the top four.

Heading into today’s matches, Manchester United occupy fourth spot, with West Ham in fifth and North London rivals Tottenham in sixth, but Arsenal are just three points off United with two games in hand. Tierney believes it would be a big step for the club if they can secure Champions League qualification this season:

“Of course, Arsenal belong in the Champions League and, obviously, in the last few years we haven’t done that, so to do that would great progress for the club. There are games you need to be winning to keep the distance in the table with the teams under you. We know it’s going to be tough but these are the months to do it. This is the part of the season where you want to set your eyes on a target and know what you need to do to get there. You need to be winning games.”

It is definitely a realistic ambition but there are, at least, three other teams competing for one position so the Gunners can’t really afford to have too many slip-ups between now and the end of the campaign.

A victory against Burnley this afternoon will undoubtedly aid their chances and you would hope that, considering Mikel Arteta side’s excellent form at the Emirates this season, they will secure the three points versus the Clarets.
