Three Things Arsenal Could Learn From England’s Win Over Slovenia

It was a good day for England who managed a great performance against a highly motivated Slovenian team which held on until the very end. The stand-out players and stand-out moments of the game could give Arsenal, and especially Wenger, a few things to think about though. The first noticeable performance was that of Jack Wilshere who we haven’t seen play that well in quite a while. Leaving aside his health problems, the 23 year old was not at his best this season, and England’s game against the Slovenians might have shown why that happened. Apparently being played in a different position that what fans see at the Emirates, gave Wilshere wings and allowed him to look more like a leader than he ever has. He stole the show from Rooney who despite scoring the winning goal, looked a bit lost and out of touch with the team. Arsenal’s midfielder on the other hand was all over his adversaries and found himself in scoring positions that suited him well. He nailed the executions, had great pass accuracy and showed Wenger where Arsenal need to use him on a more regular basis.

There were two other performances that might interest Arsenal. One was that of Sterling who played on the left and gave his direct adversary quite the headache. Speed and amazing technique were showcased on several occasions and could have given Wenger an extra incentive to maybe register as a serious contender for transferring the 20 year old who will likely be leaving Liverpool.

The other mentionable performance was that of Handanovic. The 30 year old Slovenian keeper was linked to Arsenal on several occasions this month after being rumored to leave Inter. With one year left of his contract and with performances like that against England, he could be the perfect option just in case Mourinho decides to come between Cech and the Gunners.
