Three players Arsenal should sell this summer

Arsenal went through a stage at the end of the 2013/14 season of clearing out the dead wood from the club, players such as Gervinho, Andrey Arshavin and Denilson were all victims of this. It has now come to that stage three years later where there are players at the club which are taking a huge amount of wages when that money could be invested into a player that will be able to help the squad next season in going for the Premier League title.

Here are three Arsenal players that Arsene Wenger should be looking to cash in on this summer.

Mathieu Debuchy

The Frenchman joined from Newcastle in 2014 for a fee in the region of £12m, he nailed down a first team place before he incurred an injury that left a void in the right back position. Youth team product Hector Bellerin took his opportunity outstandingly and at the age of 20, overtook Arsenal’s £12m summer signing as first choice full-back on the right side of defence.

Since then, Debuchy went out on a successful loan to Bordeaux in 2016 and has had another full season at the Emirates and in that time the 31-year-old only managed one appearance in a 3-1 home victory. Being on the periphery once again will not be in Debuchy’s plans.

Kieran Gibbs

Joined in 2007, Kieran Gibbs was meant to be Ashley Cole’s successor but it is safe to say he never got anywhere near one of the greatest left-backs to ever play the game. A career ravaged by injuries has certainly caused The Englishman to stall his progress. Now at the age of 27, it is a question of potential but a question of finally filling that and he has been unable to live up to the expectations in his 10 years at the club.

Carl Jenkinson

The boy hood Arsenal fan has been able to live many people’s dream, but his time at Arsenal should have been ended a long time ago. Since joining from Charlton in 2011, the full-back has been unable to nail down a starting spot and being second/third choice behind Bacary Sagna, Mathieu Debuchy and Hector Bellerin has hampered his progress.

He did undertake two loan spells to London rivals West Ham but after a successful first spell, the second season was cut short by injury leaving the player back at Arsenal behind Hector Bellerin in the pecking order.
