Three Low-Cost Solutions For The Attack

Three Low-Cost Solutions For The Attack

Even though there is a lot of time left for Wenger to find the perfect striker, fans need to be prepared for all sorts of scenarios. Seeing an expensive goal scorer such as Higuain, Aubameyang, Cavani, Icardi or Lacazette move to Emirates looks unlikely at the moment. Sure, there are rumors but nothing that could make anyone think a move is imminent. On the other hand, few expected Xhaka to join the Gunners so soon in the transfer window and for such a considerable amount of money so there is still hope. Just in case things go South and Wenger loses hi first choices, here are some options which could still help Arsenal improve their scoring rate and their fire power.

First on the list is 25-year-old Wissam Ben Yedder. Currently with Toulouse, this former France U21 international ended last year with 23 goals and 5 assists. He has been very consistent since joining the French side and might fit Wenger’s profile. He has no major injury recorded and looks to have reached a career peak. Even so he is still considered low cost as Toulouse is expected to request around £8million for their striker. In terms of playing style, the Frenchman is similar to Napoli’s Insigne. It`s because of the height as he is just 5.5ft and has a very low center of gravity. He likes to dribble and looks like the exact opposite of Giroud. He is fast, cool in front of goal and has a great striking technique so he can score both long and short range goals. Overall he would be a more than decent solution for Arsenal’s attack which is now depending on Akpom, newcomer Takuma Asano and Sanogo to fill in for Giroud in case anything happens to the Frenchman.

Next on the list is Leonardo Pavoletti who just as Ben Yedder, has been slowly increasing his scoring rate. It looks like he has reached his peak as well and if not for a couple of injuries, he would have gone over the 20 goal milestone in the last Serie A season. He is under contract with Genoa and would be available for around the same amount as the Frenchman mentioned above. The thing with Pavoletti is that he is very similar to Giroud and it will be up to Wenger to figure out if he wants someone who can change up the game completely or if he wants someone with the same structure as Arsenal’s current main striker. Out of this list, this Italian striker should be the last solution.

Lastly there is the highly rated Gabriel Barbosa from Santos. The 19-year-old is one of Brazil’s most promising youngsters and may still be available for a decent amount of money. He is now valued at around £13million and would bring a lot of style and speed to the game. The problem with him is that he is currently leaning towards becoming a winger. Sure, Wenger could turn him into a striker as he is still young, but still, he might not be as clinical as fans want. There’s no point in bringing in another winger when Arsenal need a no.9.

Thanks to Transfermarkt.com for the information and statistics on the players profiled above.

These are last resorts for Arsenal who really need a striker to help Giroud. Welbeck’s recovery is not something definite so there’s no telling when he will return.  Hopefully Wenger will not need to use this list and will sign someone like Lacazette or Aubameyang.
