Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will be out of action for around six weeks with an injury he picked up during training, according to a report from journalist Charles Watts on his official YouTube channel.
Watts said Partey’s injury is a ‘muscle injury’ located ‘at the top of his leg, kind of groin stroke thigh’. Currently, it is unclear just what Partey has done.
Despite this, it is clear that Partey will not be available for selection in Arsenal’s next competitive game, when they will take on Everton at Goodison Park on August 17.
Even with an international break in between now and Arsenal’s next game, it will come too soon for the 30-year-old Ghanaian international.
What did Charles Watts say regarding Thomas Partey’s injury?
On Partey’s injury, Watts said: “[Thomas Partey] obviously missed the game at the weekend with that injury he picked up in training just before the Manchester United game.
“Sort of a muscle injury at the top of his leg, kind of groin stroke thigh – I haven’t had it nailed down exactly what the issue is.
“But I have been told that six weeks is definitely the sort of time frame that Arsenal and Thomas Partey and his people are looking towards.”
How will the loss of Partey affect Arsenal?
Arsenal will not feel the loss of Partey in his preferred position of defensive midfield, as they already have Declan Rice and Jorginho who can play there. However, this doesn’t mean they will not be unaffected by his absence.
This season, Partey is becoming something of a utility player for the Gunners – he played in the right-back position in the opening game of the season, which is not his natural role. Despite this, he has shown he can perform an admirable job when taken outside of his comfort zone.
Moreover, there is talk that Jorginho could leave the club soon, with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce interested in signing the Italian international. Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has denied any suggestions that he will leave North London in the summer – but it remains to be seen whether he will leave the club or not.
