Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has released a public statement following his omission from the Premier League squad. The German expressed his disappointment at the decision and went on to criticise the club for not showing loyalty to him, even though he has told them he is 100% committed to the cause:

Supporters on Twitter are bemused by the whole situation, with some backing the player’s stance, while others are hoping to get the 32-year-old off the club’s wage bill as soon as possible:

It's an appalling way to treat him really. Such a sad end.

They don’t want to pay him £350k per week. It’s that simple.

I think it’s time to club give us an explanation for leaving him out of the squad

Whichever side you are it is absolute waste of resources and talent by Arsenal

As much as I love the player, I believe his loyalty was well rewarded with the 8 million bonus.

He's trying to turn the fans against the club. No one is bigger than the club. Ciao

isn't it at this point more convenient to terminate his contract? Or does the financial cost exceed the amount he's being paid now?

Following this statement, it seems like we are reaching the end game. It’s pretty clear that Ozil has played his last game for the club and talks over the termination of his contract are likely to ramp up now.
Reports this morning suggest a move to the United States is a growing possibility but it remains to be seen whether he’ll leave or stay and see out his contract until the summer.
