“They’ve Been Heavily Linked…” Ornstein Delivers Verdict On Whether Arsenal Will Make Bid For £65M Rated French Ace

Arsenal are unlikely to table an offer for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The trusted journalist suggests that, despite the France international being mentioned as a target for the Gunners by a number of different sources, he is not expected to move to the Emirates this summer:

“They’ve been heavily linked with wingers – I see Moussa Diaby mentioned a lot. I’m not sure that that is, despite perhaps admiration for him, as credible in terms of a realistic signing as some may imagine.”

Diaby has been on Arsenal’s radar for quite some time and it is somewhat surprising to hear that they have stepped away from making a bid for the player.

It seems to be the case that manager Mikel Arteta wants to prioritise other areas of the pitch. It has been reported that Diaby could cost as much as £65m, and that money could be better spent on bringing in a new holding midfielder, a replacement for Granit Xhaka or a fullback.

Who will Arsenal be targeting instead of Diaby?

West Ham’s Declan Rice appears to be the number one target, while it is believed the Gunners have retained an interest in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

In terms of defenders, RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan has been linked in recent weeks, while Diaby’s Bayer Leverkusen teammate, Edmond Tapsoba, has also been scouted.
