“They Are Both In Trouble…” Campbell Claims Two Arsenal Stars Are In Jeopardy If 30M Transfer Is Completed

Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Oleksandr Zinchenko‘s arrival at the Emirates could spell “trouble” for the likes of Kieran Tierney and Granit Xhaka.

Both players have been regular starters under manager Mikel Arteta but Campbell says their positions in the first eleven could come under threat from Zinchenko:

“They are both (Tierney and Xhaka) in trouble and that’s the way it should be. They are both in trouble. At the end of the day, the manager has to pick the best team. Technically, Xhaka is a good player, but I don’t think he is technically better than Zinchenko – there should be competition for every spot and that’s what we are going to get.”

There has been some speculation today that Zinchenko is having second thoughts about a move to the Gunners, with the player mulling over staying at Manchester City and fighting for his place.

However, journalists such as Fabrizio Romano have poured cold water on the claims, stating personal terms have been agreed and that an official announcement about the £30m transfer could happen as early as this week.

Zinchenko’s ability to play both in midfield and at left-back will certainly give Arteta pause for thought in terms of his selection options, and Campbell is right to point out it is a good thing that there is competition for places in the squad.
