Former Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry was in good form as Germany defeated Northern Ireland 2-0 in a Euro 2020 qualifier last night. The 24-year-old scored the second goal at Windsor Park, taken his total to nine in just ten caps for his country.
Since leaving the Gunners in 2016, the German international has excelled, bagging a move to Bayern Munich in the process and becoming a first-team regular at the Bundesliga champions. Fans on Twitter are wishing that Arsenal kept hold of him:
The worse decision arsenal made was to get rid of gnabry https://t.co/zR54Qmuv8l

I'll never forgive Wenger for losing Serge Gnabry by continually playing bang average midfielders ahead of him at Arsenal ? #NIRGER #Germany #EuropeanQualifiers #EURO2020

To be fair Gnabry always looked atrocious at Arsenal, he HAD to leave

Gnabry was in the last year of his contract when he left for Werder Bremen, and while Arsene Wenger wanted to keep him, the Gunners did not want to lose him for nothing. Even so, it must be said that the winger has developed his game immensely since leaving the Emirates, and that has only been possible after getting more regular game time.
Whether he would have got the matches if he had stayed in England, it is difficult to know. In any case, Arsenal do have a pretty strong forward line of their own these days anyway.
