The Unfortunate Demise of Ashley Cole

The Unfortunate Demise of Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole instantly became the villain when he switched loyalties to Chelsea from Arsenal back in 2006, much to the chagrin of the Gunners faithful. The move worked well for him, as it was followed by a dearth of silverware in the years which followed. An English international in his prime back then, he walked into the Chelsea team and made the left-back position his own for years to follow.

Then came the grand reunion of Chelsea and Jose Mourinho; but little did Cole know that this would spell trouble for him. The Portugese boss went about stamping his authority by taking controversial measures, one being the immediate axing of Cole from the first team – a player who had been performing well at the highest level even at the age of 33.

Cole watched Chelsea’s superb win over Manchester City from the bench, in much the same way as he has seen other big games this season. Watching Cole’s forlorn and isolated figure trudge back to the team bus after the win at Etihad Stadium very much summed up his season in a nutshell.

It looks like unfortunately Cole will be shown the door once his contract runs out in the summer, and the Daily Mail are reporting that a sensational switch back to Arsenal could very well take place, as Arsene Wenger has previously refused to rule out a move for him if either one of his left-backs were to get injured. Could we actually see Ashley Cole return to Arsenal?
