Could The Prodigal Son Return?

According to reports emerging in Barcelona, Arsenal are keeping tabs on Cesc Fabregas’ position in the Catalan squad, and would be ready to bring the Spaniard back to the Emirates Stadium if the Spanish champions decide to let the midfielder leave.

Fabregas is no less than a hero for the Arsenal faithful, and the fans appreciated the effort made by the midfielder in trying to win a trophy for the club. Most of all, Arsene Wenger has been associated with the midfielder’s career for the longest time, and would be delighted to bring him back to the club. Fabregas made the move to Barcelona in 2011, for a reported fee of £30 million, and the fans lost faith in the club’s ambitions just like the players that left after his move. Shortly after Fabregas’ departure, his influential midfield partner Samir Nasri left for Manchester City, leaving a gaping loop in the midfield. Also, Gael Clichy’s departure for City in the same window left Arsenal in shambles.

However, Arsenal have bounced back, and there is renewed hope in the squad that a trophy is not out of reach anymore. Another big factor that could swing the tide of success to the club is the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has retired, leaving Wenger as the most experienced manager in the Barclays Premier League.

New signings like Santi Cazorla have taken the Premier League by storm, forming an immediate sync with the existing players at the club. Lukas Podolski has added a newfound aggression in the Arsenal attack, combining well with Theo Walcott and Cazorla to create havoc for opposition defences.

According to DailyMail, when Arsenal sold Fabregas to Barcelona, they included a clause which gave the Gunners a first-buy option at £25 million, if the Catalans decided to sell the midfielder. Given the reported £70 million war chest with Wenger, the manager would be ready to bring the midfielder back with the £25 million price tag fixed according to the player’s contract.

This comes as exciting news for the supporters, but will have to hope Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova decides to sell.
