The business Arsenal could conclude on Deadline Day – Lemar, Sanchez and more

The final day of the summer transfer window is here and it’s shaping up to be a very busy day for Arsenal, although the business being completed by the North London side may not be what fans are wanting.

Arsene Wenger’s side approved the sale of Kieran Gibbs to West Brom yesterday for £7m and confirmation of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s switch to Liverpool is imminent, which images already leaked on social media showing the England international in the Reds colours.

Whilst that gives Arsenal a return of around £47m, the talk coming out of London Colney today suggests that the Gunners do not have the funds to make further signings in the window without a major departure- and that’s looking likely to be Alexis Sanchez.

Wenger has been adamant all summer that the Chilean superstar will not be leaving the club this summer, particularly to a Premier League rival, but his stance seems to have changed in the aftermath of Sunday’s heavy 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

Arsenal now seem ready to sell if their demands are met, with an asking price of around £70m, and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City seem confident of securing a deal as reports indicate the Citizens have sent an entourage to South America to finalise a deal should a fee be agreed.

However, Arsenal are only prepared to sanction a departure for the two-time Copa America winner if they can land a replacement, meaning that this saga could drag on into the final hours of the transfer window.

Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez has been given permission to leave Algeria’s training camp to finalise his future but it’s understood Arsenal are not in the running for the former PFA Player of the Year.

Instead, Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler seems to be the most likely candidate to come into the Gunners ranks today as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez and that’s likely to be the only piece of incoming business that Arsenal compete.

Elsewhere, Shkodran Mustafi looks set to stay at the club despite a willingness from both parties for a deal to go ahead but further exits are still expected, with the Gunners continuing to try and offload both Mathieu Debuchy and Lucas Perez.

Aside from that, Arsenal are set for a day that won’t be exciting for the fans and will instead raise concerns at the Emirates Stadium, with supporters seemingly at breaking point just three games into the new campaign.

UPDATE: The latest sees Sky Sports News reporting that Arsenal have made a £92 million bid for Thomas Lemar to Monaco who was of course also linked with a move to Manchester United at one point in the transfer window. This deal with Arsenal was supposedly dead in the water but this kind of an offer could well mean two things – firstly that Arsenal are very serious about signing Lemar and secondly it could also mean that Alexis Sanchez is leaving despite the Chilean striker liking a tweet today which talked about him staying at Arsenal. Where Sanchez goes remains to be seen with both Manchester United and Manchester City linked with the player but Pep Guardiola seemingly the more likely to land the Arsenal star.
