The Athletic’s James McNicholas Predicts Who He Believes Will Be Arsenal’s “Two Top Targets” For The Summer

Arsenal are expected to go after Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak in the summer transfer window, according to The Athletic‘s Gunners correspondent James McNicholas.

The journalist says that, while he can’t rule out other names being pursued, he expects Calvert-Lewin and Isak to be the “two top targets” for the London club.

Whether that means Arsenal are likely to pursue both players, it remains to be seen. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having left for Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette (as well as Eddie Nketiah) expected to leave on a free transfer in June, there is space to bring in more than one striker.

McNicholas claims that the Gunners did try and sign Isak last month, after losing out on Dusan Vlahovic, but Real Sociedad’s refusal to sell for below his £75m release clause made a deal impossible. It will be hoped that the La Liga club will be more reasonable in the summer when they’ll have a better chance of finding a replacement.

In terms of Calvert-Lewin, Everton were never going to sell in January due to their current predicament which sees them battling against relegation, but a move could happen at the end of the season.
