Sergej Milinkovic-Savic could be available for €40m (£35m) to €50m (£44m) if Lazio agree to insert a release clause in his new contract, according to reports in Italy.
The Serbian international has eighteen months remaining on his current deal and it is believed that his agent, Mateja Kezman, wants a buyout fee included as a precondition for the player signing an extension.
Arsenal are known to be scouting Milinkovic-Savic but, when asked whether they would pay that much for a player who will turn 28 in February, fans on Twitter were split:
That much talent for that little money is a no brainer.

Rather tielemans for free

Absolutely. Have him in the squad for 5-6 years. Top class player.

Buy Macallister, better than him and way more younger

The amount of people saying no 😭 ball knowledge on the floor. He's one of the most versatile and physically capable players in the world. End of. A dream signing of mine.

Great player, but a 6 is needed much more.

If Mikel wants him, I want him👍🏾

Don't care about his age, he's a great player. Think he would be a good signing for us if we can get him for 40m

Would be looking for a replacement in 2years
Just go for rice instead— 𝙳𝚎𝚔𝚞𝚗𝚋𝚒💜 (@De_kunbi) December 28, 2022
There is no doubt that the Gunners would be getting a player in his prime years if the midfielder did make the switch to the Emirates but he wouldn’t exactly be an investment for the future.
It also has to be pointed out that recruiting a backup for Thomas Partey is a higher priority than signing someone who would prefer to play higher up the pitch. With Leicester’s Youri Tielemans (who is a couple of years younger) being available for free next summer too, it makes a bid for Milinkovic-Savic even less attractive.
