Szczesny Ready For Competition If New Keeper Is Signed

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has conceded that the club may be on the brink of signing a new shot stopper, but insisted that any newcomer will not hamper his confidence to train and challenge for the number one spot.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the goalkeeping position, after Arsene Wenger having to shuffle between three keepers for the entirety of this past season. Despite Wojciech Szczesny being number one, the Poland international has been unable to establish his position as the permanent man in goal. Vito Mannone and Lukasz Fabianski also appeared on several occasions, casting a doubt over Szczesny’s credibility at the club.

Wenger will be disappointed to have not signed his targets yet, and more so when Stevan Jovetic signed for Manchester City over Arsenal. The French boss is also looking to strengthen the attack line, but remains cautious after losing one of his goalkeepers already in this window.

The club recently accepted an offer from Sunderland for Vito Mannone, after their manager Paulo Di Canio could not prevent number one Simon Mignolet from sealing a move to Liverpool. Mannone has been rated highly, and despite not being able to make the cut at the Emirates Stadium, now has a new opportunity to improve his career at the Black Cats.

With Mignolet making the move to Merseyside, two other goalkeepers who have been linked with a move are Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul, and Queens Park Rangers stopper Julio Cesar.

Krul has been impressive for the Magpies over the past two seasons, and has also made his international debut for the Netherlands. On the other hand, Cesar has had a torrid first six months at Loftus Road, and is set for a move from the relegated club. However, either player will cost the Gunners a considerable fee, with a striker yet to be bought.

According to Daily Mail, Szczesny remains calm about his position, and believed that another keeper coming in will not change the Poland international’s approach to training and fighting for the number one jersey.

Szczesny said, “My confidence never gets crushed.

“Whatever happens, my attitude doesn’t change. I still try my very best in training. I want to make sure I’m in the best shape possible.

“Whether someone comes in, it’s not really my decision and it won’t affect me in any way. You have to deal with the competition.”

So Szczesny is making the right noises but lets see if he can deliver on the field.
