Szczęsny Might Be Facing Tough Competition

Arsenal repeatedly stated they were looking to sign a world class goalkeeper to provide proper competition for Szczęsny. The Gunners’ current stopper was never the most reliable of footballers having many issues to correct in terms of skill. He even had a bit of a fallout with the club’s managerial team after stating he is not respected as much as he should be. Luckily for the 23 year old Polish international, Arsenal failed to transfer Reina or Valdes over the summer who were two of the most probable targets to lock on to.

According to Metro, one of the more farfetched options that seemed almost impossible during the summer transfer period is now becoming a possible solution. Real’s iconic player, Iker Casillas may finally leave the Spanish side after being unable to sort things out with his club. It was thought that after Mourinho’s departure things will go back to normal and the Spanish international would reclaim his spot as the number one goalkeeper. Even with Ancelotti’s arrival it looks like Casillas is still pushed to the side. It is just a matter of time until a player of his quality and experience will find a team that will rely on him on a regular basis.

The 32 year old Spaniard has managed an impressive 476 appearances for Real Madrid, not counting those which were accumulated during his youth career. He ohas nly played for Real and was the team’s first choice since he was 18.

With Arsenal’s new found thirst for glory, Casillas would be a great addition to the team. He is 32 which is not that old for a goalkeeper and he also has enough experience to help the Gunners improve their game. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation and has already won all the big trophies with both his club and his national team. If the Spaniard makes his way to London he will surely become a fan favourite and will help the team end their 8 year trophy-less streak.
