Suarez Admits To Have Been Close To Signing With Arsenal

Apparently Luis Suarez was closer to the Emirates than anyone expected. The Uruguayan was supposed to come to play for Wenger back in 2013 but decided to go a different way after Gerrard told him he was too good for Arsenal. According to the Daily Mail, if it weren’t for Liverpool’s captain, Suarez would have probably been playing for the Gunners by now. The £40million deal was supposed to take place in the period when the Uruguayan was suspended due to his incident with Ivanovic. With few options, and such a great opportunity in front of them, the North Londoners looked ready to make a second record offer in order to secure the striker.

Suarez, who is now 27 remembered to thank Gerrard for not letting him leave for Arsenal. The captain knew what he was talking about apparently after Liverpool received almost double the money from Barcelona. Gerrard also told Suarez that Barcelona, Real or Bayern will be bidding for him if he stays one more year. These words did the job and managed to keep the striker under contract with Liverpool for the next campaign. In that period of time, he became the Premier League’s top scorer and increased his value immensely. It was unlucky for Arsenal that they were denied the chance to work with someone as good as Suarez though. Leaving the Premier League might not have been the best choice for Suarez who is not having the best of luck so far with Barcelona as the manager is still finding the best position to use him in.
