Strong end to the season can put Arsenal in best place for the summer

Arsenal made it three wins on the bounce in all competitions with their late 1-0 victory over champions Leicester City at The Emirates on Wednesday night.

The win over Craig Shakespeare’s Foxes side, having beaten Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final at the weekend, gives the Gunners yet another lift and keeps their hopes of breaking back into the top four alive going into the final stretch of the season.

Whilst it took a Robert Huth own goal after a nervy 90 minutes to seal the three points on the night, that is perhaps just the luck Arsene Wenger has been missing over the past few months coming at just the right time.

There are a lot of things hanging on how Arsenal do over the coming month until the end of the season. Whilst the manager insists that their form will have no bearing on his decision as whether he is staying or not, it is clear that should they manage to get into the Champions League places a decision to sign a new deal would be that much easier, and the same goes for the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, all of whom are unsure where their futures lie.

However, one thing that a strong run between now and 21st May will show is that somewhere the Gunners have it in them to take a game to their opponents. An almost faultless run is needed in order to secure a top four spot meaning there will need to be wins over the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United, which would show just how well Wenger has done to turn their form around.

In addition to pushing for a place in the top four and maintaining his record of never having finished outside the Champions League places, a decent run-in for Wenger could also give him added clout in the transfer market this summer.

Whether he stays or not the Frenchman has revealed that his is already working on signings for the club this summer and, given the atmosphere around the club just a few weeks ago, a few more wins and a potential FA Cup success would give Le Prof a much better stance when it comes to convincing players to join, as well as stay, over the months ahead.
