Statistics Show Arsenal Cech Is The Keeper To Buy

Arsenal have been chasing a new keeper for some time now. Apparently David Ospina is not what they were looking for as the search for a new number 1 stopper continues. There is little Wenger can do before the transfer window actually opens as most keeper moves will be closely linked together. Bringing in a big name to the Emirates should be a priority according to most specialists who attribute the Gunners’ failure to keep up with Chelsea or City at least partially to the fact that they are missing someone like Courtois or Cech.

Asmir Begovic could be the most viable transfer according to TalkSport, even though he does not seem in the same league as Cech who almost definitely will be leaving Chelsea this summer. The problem for the Czech international is that even though he wants to stay in London, he will have a difficult time signing with one of Chelsea’s rivals. Mourinho has proven over and over that he does not want to strengthen his direct adversaries regardless of the competition so Stoke’s keeper could be higher up on the transfer list. The question everyone should be asking is if Begovic is better than Ospina. Here are some statistics to help figure things out.

During the last season Begovic was featured in 37 games in which he conceded 43 goals and kept clean sheets 7 times. He has appeared in 173 games for Stoke and managed to keep his adversaries from scoring any goals in 50 different games. He has an average of 1.21 goals per game.

In order to get a better comparison between the two we will provide stats regarding Ospina’s time spent playing for Nice. The Colombian was featured in 199 games and kept clean sheets 65 times. He has given up an average of 1.19 goals per game. In his first season at the Emirates he was featured in 23 games in which he conceded 17 goals and kept clean sheets 10 times. Even though the competitions analyzed are different, it is still pretty obvious that the two have had similar performances and numbers which are no were near as good as Cech’s who out of 493 games for Chelsea he kept clean sheets an amazing 228 times and averaged a mere 0.7 goals per game.

Clearly the Czech international is a top drawer stopper who could surely help the Gunners to improve that bit needed to perhaps seriously contend for the title.
