Sporting Director Opens Door To £45m Rated Arsenal Target’s Departure

Lyon sporting director Juninho has said that the French club could sell Houssem Aouar this summer if they receive a good enough offer for the midfielder.

Both Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with the 22-year-old in the French press over the past week, with reports suggesting he could be sold for around €50m (£45m).

While Juninho did not explicitly state that Lyon will listen to offers for Aouar, he said the club were realistic enough to understand that they may receive a bid from another club which will be too good to turn down:

“Houssem Aouar? When you have great players in the squad, it is quite logical that other bigger teams with greater economic power come to seek the players. There is a risk of losing important players. If we lose important players, I have already spoken with the president, we will have the right to balance the workforce.”

Whether the Gunners would have the funds to go after the France Under 21 international, it is up for debate. The priority, at the moment, appears to be Thomas Partey but they are struggling to come up with the €50m (£45m) to sign him.

Aouar is a different type of midfielder to the Atletico star, but with doubts over whether Arsenal will re-sign Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid, there is likely to be some interest in the player.

With Lyon having failed to qualify for the Champions League, they may have to sell one of their key stars for a reduced fee in order to cover costs, so the Gunners may wait until later on in the transfer window to make their move.
