“Special Talent” – Petit Backing Arsenal Teenager To Become Key First Team Player

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that Matteo Guendouzi has a massive future ahead of him in the game.

The 19-year-old has made 32 appearances since his summer switch from Ligue Two side Lorient, and Petit believes his fellow countryman just needs to stay consistent with his performances:

“Guendouzi is already like the engine of the team, always running, always trying to get the ball back. He’s a fighter, a special talent.”

“The only thing I want to see from him now is to keep doing more. He has impressed a lot of people, but he can do much more on the pitch – I’m sure of that.”

Guendouzi is only behind Lucas Torreira in the amount of game time he has been afforded by manager Unai Emery this campaign.

It clearly demonstrates the Spaniard’s faith in the young Frenchman who has been nothing short of a revelation since making his debut back in August.

The surprising thing for many Gunners fans is Guendouzi’s maturity despite his young age. He was one of the best players on the park during the 3-1 defeat to Manchester City when senior teammates around him were failing to perform.

The £7m that Arsenal paid for him back in July is certainly looking like a bargain now.
