It looks like Arsenal’s former midfielder has failed to live up to Barcelona’s expectations and he is now desperate to return to the Premier League. Many rumors suggest that he will return to Emirates Stadium and that his current contract may have a buy-back option. These pieces of information were denied by Wenger, who spoke about Song’s situation a couple of days back. The Frenchman advised his ex-player to give things a bit more time and do his best to get a place in Barcelona’s starting eleven.
Song was worth £15 million when he left the Gunners and will probably not be let go by Barcelona for less than that, considering he has only spent a year at Camp Nou. The bad news for Song is coming from Emirates. According to reports, he is not be on Wenger’s transfer wish-list for next season. The Frenchman is looking to start things over by investing in some up-and-coming young players who will be part of a long term project. Another important factor that may contribute to this entire situation is the fact that Song did not leave the Emirates on good terms.
Arsenal’s former player may still have the opportunity of returning to the Premier League though. Surprisingly, Song’s best chance of returning to the UK may come from the Gunners’ North London rivals, Tottenham. DailyMail reports that Spurs are considering placing a speculative bid for Barcelona’s player if they realize their goal of qualifying for the Champions League. Seemingly, Daniel Levy is likely to loosen the purse-strings significantly if Champions League football is secured and this coupled with the fact that Villas-Boas will probably let go a few players who are currently playing the same position as Song then his signing looks possible. Spurs need another striker but with extra funds available they will try to improve on other areas too.
Even though there is not a great chance of signing Song, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will reportedly still bid for Arsenal’s ex-player. I can’t see Song going to White Hart Lane even if they do really want him. What do you think?
