Should Wenger Consider January Loan Move For Henry?

According to the Daily Mail, it has been no surprise that Wenger’s former prolific frontman, Thierry Henry, is training with the Arsenal first-team during this time of the year. The Frenchman always comes to train with his former club during this period. With the MLS currently enjoying a winter break, Henry is striving to stay fit for when the MLS resumes in March 2014.

The 36-year-old was phenomenal in his eight-year spell with the north London side – he scored 226 goals in 369 appearances in all competitions from 1999-2007, winning two Premier League titles and three FA cups during that time. He had a second stint in January 2012, a two month loan move which yielded two goals.

Arsenal are very light in the forward department this season having sold both Gervinho and Maraoune Chamakh during the summer transfer window. They were close to signing Demba Ba from Chelsea on a season-long loan deal on the last day of the window but could not close the deal.

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea refused to loan to a title rival and that left Wenger with little option but to keep hold of Nicklas Bendtner, who had arrived back at the Emirates from Juventus on a season-long loan deal.

Bendtner has failed to impress after two years away from the club, and has not even shown glimpses of his talent during sporadic minutes on the pitch. He has already spoken of his desire to leave the club once the window re-opens in January.

On the other hand, Henry made a decent contribution when Wenger signed him for Arsenal for the second time in January 2012 on a two-month loan deal. It can be argued that Henry would be able to make a bigger impact than Bendtner from the bench.

Wenger will, in all probability, sell off Bendtner and be eyeing possible replacements come January. However, he has taken Henry on loan once before and if no real quality can be found, Henry could have a third stint with Arsenal.

The presence of an Arsenal legend could surely galvanize and inspire the likes of Giroud, Wilshere and co. Do you think Wenger should sign Henry for a third time?
