Should Arsenal Try To Sign Raheem Sterling?

Well the most wanted man in England is arguably Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling who went public with his contract dispute with the Merseyside club a couple of weeks back causing him not to be selected for Stoke’s 6-1 dismantling of Liverpool in Steven Gerrard’s last game. Sterling is undoubtedly talented having shown he can play in any of the forward positions and can send shivers up the back of any defender with his raw pace and ability to beat men one-on-one.

Interestingly, the value placed on the Jamaican born player is reportedly put between £54.4m-£59.7m according to an article in the Independent. As the newspaper reports, a research group from the International Centre for Sports Studies called the Football Observatory have done extensive analysis on the Liverpool forward and have come up with the figure of £54.4m-£59.7m which will only make the Merseyside club’s position stronger and make it tougher for Arsenal to beat out the likes of Manchester City and their deep pockets to sign the yougster.

When you look at the Arsenal squad with players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Gnabry and Sanchez you wonder where Arsene Wenger would fit Raheem Sterling in. Without some departures, the attacking part of the squad looks to be pretty full already and is Sterling that much of an upgrade over the players currently in the squad?

Arsenal would do better to sign a top-class goal-keeper and another defensive midfielder plus maybe even a 20+ goal striker rather than paying an enormous transfer fee for a player who has really only had one stand-out season so far in his career and don’t forget Sterling clearly has an agent who is difficult to deal with and might pose more problems down the line.
