Should Arsenal Return To Old Striking Target?

Deemed as Spain’s new top striker, Alvaro Morata has yet to meet the expectation many have for him. His performances although not bad, have always left you wanting for more. He started off strong for Spain’s U21 team where he scored 13 goals in 13 games. Unfortunately, the transition to the big leagues kind of put a stop to his momentum. Currently valued at around £20million, Morata is not feeling well playing in Serie A. In his last 38 games he has scored just 8 goals and provided 7 assists. If he is lucky he could end up with around 13-14 goals this season which is pretty much his average goal rate per season. Since he started his professional career he has not managed to score more than 15 goals in a season and is now averaging 1 goal every 4th game.

Now let`s take a look at the guy Squawka suggest, could be replaced by Morata. He is one of the least appreciated players in Wenger’s lot and has been rumored to get new competition for the past three seasons. He scores a goal every 2 games and he averages around 20 goals per season in all competitions. If you did not know that we are talking about Giroud, and statistics would be all that matter, the Frenchman would be the obvious choice.

There is really no point in bringing in Morata who would most likely be less efficient than Giroud due to his lack of experience in the Premier League. Arsenal need a goal scorer who works well with the team, not a striker who despite a poor scoring rate, is perfect for Italian football. Bringing in someone like Aubameyang or even Higuain would be the way to go. Bringing a player similar to Giroud with an even lower scoring rate is not something to consider. With £20million Wenger could go for Lacazette or Paco Alcacer. Both are young, fast, work well within a team and don’t get phased out of the game. They score a lot of goals and could surely get used to the Premier League. These are just two names that could be on Wenger’s list and what is more important, should be in front of Morata.
