Should Arsenal Re-Sign Former Defensive Midfielder?

Alex Song joined Barcelona from Arsenal in August 2012 on a five-year contract for a fee in the region of £15 million. However, he has failed to cement a place in Barcelona’s starting eleven and new boss Enrique is expected to sell him after the World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 26-year-old is linked with a return to the Premier League where he really thrived as a player. Top Premier League clubs such as Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are linked with a move for his services, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Even Arsenal are in need of a new anchorman in midfield. They were brutally exposed in central defence last season against their title rivals when they lost heavily to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Song has never truly been replaced at Arsenal when he left for the Nou Camp two seasons ago. Mikel Arteta has played in the holding midfield role, but he did not have the same effect as Song did for the Gunners.

Do you think Arsenal should make a move to re-sign their former holding midfielder? We certainly think he would be a great addition to the current squad.
