Serie A Side Back In To Sign Unwanted Arsenal Star On Loan With £23m Option To Buy

Roma are looking to sign Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi on loan, according to Tuttomercatoweb. The Italian website reports that the Giallorossi are keen to snap up the German before the Serie A transfer window closes at the end of the month.

Gunners boss Unai Emery has already stated that he has told the defender that he can leave the club, and it seems that Italy could well be his next destination.

Roma would likely take Mustafi on an initial season-long loan with an option to buy for a fee around €20m (£18.3m) to €25m (£23m). Although Arsenal would have to take a loss on the £35m they paid Valencia three years ago, they could be open to the deal.

One stumbling block may be the 27-year-old’s salary. It is believed that he would command €3m a season, which is right at the top of Roma’s wage limit. The Serie A side have yet to replace Kostas Manolas who left to join Napoli this summer.
